Isolation

Is this reality or an illusion? Time to escape isolation!

Isolation is a creepy puzzle first-person puzzle game. The goal is to escape the asylum by going between dimensions under a time limit and piecing together your past. Development of Game Jam took 3 months with two other developers.
I was responsible for asset implementation, front-end scripting, shaders, game design, staging, audio and VFX.

Art Implementation

Isolation’s aesthetic is meant to touch on themes like reality, guilt, and illusion. With that being said we knew that the game should lean into assets that had a serious tone and utilized elements like strong textures, shadows, and deep contrast lighting. I was responsible for art implementation and troubleshooting art-related bugs such as problems with materials, textures, and collision errors. Furthermore, I took on full responsibility in populating the levels with assets to make the aesthetics match the puzzle design that was given to me and for making VFX features. Having said that, the resources I provided were a document containing what the puzzle mechanic would like for each level.

Distortion Shader

The Distortion Shader was created for the game Isolation in brief, it is a puzzle game that has creepy and experimental aesthetics. Since the game explores themes like cognition and psyche, we needed a visual touchstone to indicate that the main character switched into a different dimension. With this in mind, I created a 2D Distortion Shader using Unity and coded a tool so the artist can tweak the Distortion Intensity and shift the animation on the object by the X, Y, Z, and W axis.
